I am looking for a glossy finnish like yamaha put on it originally. I have heard that hammerite spray paint could work, has any one tried this, did it work. Any suggestions would be gratefully received.I want to spray paint the cylinders black on my motorcycle can any one suggest an easily available spray paint?

It needs to be a high-temperature paint, and you could probably find it in Halfords. They usually flog it for engines and exhausts. I'd agree with Timbo, though, that thorough preparation is vital to make sure it stays there. What you spray it on has to be absolutely clean and degreased, and I'd suggest you key it with wire wool. Personally I'd have it bead-blasted, but that's just me.
Dunno about paint, but the product you want is Kal-Gard Gun Kote (formerly called Engine Kote):

It is a very durable semi-gloss black finish, ideal for cylinders and heads. I had the machine shop treat the parts on a couple of sets of cylinders. It is sprayed on while the parts are heated to 150-200掳F. You could probably do it yourself, but I wanted the parts prepped properly.
I agree with all the other comments, but I once cleaned and sprayed the exhaust pipe on an old bike using hammerite and it smoked %26amp; stunk for a couple of days. After that it stayed on okay for the rest of the time I had it. Just make sure you fully degrease and key the surface otherwise it will lift off.
You need very high temperature, paint normally specified for things like exhaust manifolds on cars. Most Motor Factors and maybe Halfords will keep it in black. Hammerite paints are great but you need the proper paint not hammerite it is not rated for very high temperatures..
A brand called VHT is especially designed for Very High Temperature, this is the trade name of a major company but I cant remember the manufacturer, I saw it last week on a speed channel show and they just released a new formula. Available at most auto parts stores.
Sorry I don't know a suitable paint off hand but am sure there are some. The biggest problem is the preparation as with all aluminium. Hopefully someone on here will elaborate on that as I am not sure of the best way but know it is crucial to prevent it just peeling off very quickly
Any VHT (very high temperature) paint from companies like Sperex, PJ1, Hycote or OMP will do the job. They are available in a wide variety of finishes.
You should be able to find a high temperature paint at your local auto parts store or hardware store.
High temp paint is designed for the application your are talking about.
Halfords do a High Temp paint for automotive use. It comes in a variety of colours and finishes.
The best high temp spray paint is VHT brand. Its rated at 2200 degree's. What I use on my Kawasaki headers.
