What type of paint should I use over spray-paint on walls?

I'm moving into my brother's room when he goes off to college in August. He is artisty, and one time he decided to spray paint (black) ';sleep'; on one of his walls. Well anyways, I'm gonna paint my walls, well what type of paint should I paint over the spray-paint before I do my final color???

And he also painted his hand on another wall with like

oil paint(???)(black) Well what paint should I use over that before I use my final color

-My final color is going to be like bright, and really light (I don't want it to show through my color)What type of paint should I use over spray-paint on walls?
As A painter for 37 years now..If it is just some letering from a spray can, more than likely it is oil based.....simply buy some kilz or zinser in an aerosol can and spray a couple coats over the markings....these primers are then compatible with latex(water based) paints for the entire wall..Take note..the spray primers are not made to ';cover'; but to seal...so you will need to spray very light coats or it will ';sag'; (have runs)...wait about an hour..then lightly spray again....Your ready to p[aint now after a couple bursts of the aeresol primer...and it driesWhat type of paint should I use over spray-paint on walls?
Oh yes the spots you primes will appear still wet after wall paint has dried..do not touch let dry overnight..it will all be the same

try spray painting it over with white. it will get rid of most of the color...then paint ur room. good luck
The paint you need to use is called KILZ. It comes in either a gallon paint bucket or a spray can. It will cover virtually everything!
These two folks are right when saying you need Bin or Kilz. Thats the way to go to prime.
you need to buy a good primer....they have it available now with custom colors....prolly gonna take a couple of coats ..but hey what paint doesn't.... Bear has some good stuff and it is on sale right now before the 4/th but Kilz is the very best and you can get it from Walmart
I would use a primer/sealer called BIN. It's manufactured by the Zinsser company. This company specializes in all types of primers %26amp; sealers. BIN is an alcohol based pigmented shellac primer. It is an excellent choice for your project. It also comes in an aerosol. It has a strong odor, much like any other fast drying solvent based product. If this bothers you, try a water based product also by Zinsser called Bull's Eye 123. Lightly scuff sand the black areas. This will promote better adhesion when the primer is applied. Next, apply either of the above mentioned products and let thoroughly dry. After dry, lightly sand the primed areas smooth before applying two coats of premium grade acrylic latex paint. Remember to always clean dust from sanded areas before proceeding. Sometimes, two coats of primer is required for complete stain or color blocking.
Get a sander, light hand sander you don't want to damage the walls and run it over the spray paint to smooth out any lines and to rough the paint up so new paint will hold. Wipe off any dust. Get a good primer, and expect you use at least 2 coats of your light color paint. I will take a while and a lot of work to get it to look good. But if you cut corners you will not be happy with the results.
