Is it possible to use store bought spray paint to give your car a paint job?

If so why don't more people do it instead of paying hundreds of dollars? Is it possible to use store bought spray paint to give your car a paint job?
I've actually painted my vehicle with spray cans before and people thought I had it proffesionally done. It's a lot of work though.

Clean the car.

Tape up anything you don't want paint on. Don't forget small details like your door locks.

Wet sand everything to be painted.

Keep the can at least nine inches from the metal.

Spray with steady even strokes. Some experience with spray paint goes a long ways if you don't want runs and patchy spots.

Take your time and do it right.

Use a good quality paint.

After painting, do the same thing now with spray on clear coat.

My project was a '79 Ford pickup. I used 25 cans of paint and 25 cans of clearcoat. Is it possible to use store bought spray paint to give your car a paint job?
I buy my paint from a store called UAP . And I have been painting cars for over 20 years. It`s not the location , it is the tools , prep and facilities and the skills to put it all together that give you a good paint job . Buying spray cans will not give you that. And BTW , It still cost hundreds of dollars for the equipment / booth and materials to do it right. If you want , I can sell you a paint sprayer that fits on the end of your shop vac and you can paint your car in the driveway. Just do not complain about the dirt or the runs in you final product. I also assume you know hw to compensate for tempuratures and humidity when you mix you reducer for the paint gun? Now you know why it costs for a decent paint job . Don`t forget ! a dust free environment. I`m sure you have one at home in your garage.
You will never get it to look good. You will see every stroke you make with the spray can. They spray car paint on in very wide swaths and in several light coats to make it all blend in.Also automotive paint has hardener in it to make the paint very durable. Spray paint would wear or peel off very quickly.
It is possible but it's hard to do. you have to keep the surface clean while the paint dries for one. Car craft did an article where they painted a car with a roller and it came out pretty good...BUT, it was a lot of work. Professional and reputable paint shop that offers a warranty is the way to go.
It'll be hard to get an even coat. My boyfriend once tried to paint a wall with spray paint. It was terrible. Completely impossible to get even.

And I don't think it's the same type of paint. I don't really know much about car paint.
You can do it, but it will look like crap.By the way it takes 12 cans to do a VW beatle.
you can use spray cans to paint your car, but it doesnt turn out as good as if the body shop does it.
not recomended paint will fade easier

Yes its possible

no its not the best
Yes its ';possible';, It will just look terrible once you are done.
because automotive paint will last longer and look a lot better than spray paint would
If you want your car to look like a 2 year old painted it with crayons, and water colors....yes.
You might be a redneck if....
