How do you prevent spray paint from going underneath the stencil completely?

I have just started to make my own stencils. I've made 2 so far and each time i spray them on to the canvas, there's paint where the stencil is.How do you prevent spray paint from going underneath the stencil completely?
apply rubber cement to the back of the stencil especially at the edges of the letter or image openings to create a barrier/seal.. place a board or heavy cardboard against the back of the canvas for stable pressure. press the stencil to the canvas till tight. spray in light, quick, multiple coats. quickly remove stencil before spray paint fully hardens to prevent ripping the edge of the paint film. if any bits of rubber cement adhere to the canvas WAIT until spray paint is completely dry then rub your finger lightly over the rubber cement till it rolls and falls off.How do you prevent spray paint from going underneath the stencil completely?
You're spraying too heavily. I would suggest holding the can further away from the stencil/canvas. Do light coats rather than one heavy coat. The pressure from the can could be lifting the edges of your stencil, thus the need to move the can further from the stencil.
The trick is

a tight application of the stencil to the material

and

numerous ... extremely light coats of paint application
